| I have found that there is no such thing as road rules in Egypt the majority of vehicles are taxis that appear to have hooters and acceleraters, no brakes! Driving was scary to say the least. we were gratefull for the aircon day and night.

| Driving in Egypt is a pleasure, the roads are well kept and other drivers courteous, that is until night fall and then suddenly every bad driver in the world comes onto the roads. Horse-carts can't be seen until you are literally on top of them and cars just suddenly stop for no apparent reason. I would suggest walking about at night and keep the driving for daylight. |

Egypt Overview |
Egypt, with its magnificent blend of new and old, is a real treat for visitors. Situated in North-East Africa, Egypt can offer a bit of everything to tourists, with great cities, stunning landscapes and fabulous historical relics.
The main draw of Egypt is its incredible history, with relics from the times of the Pharoes, the Romans and the ancient Greeks. These sites, including the great pyramids, are amongst the most awe inspiring in the world, but Egypt has much more than just that. With marvellous cosmopolitan cities such as Cairo, and exceptional landscapes, Egypt is the complete destination. |

Egypt Essentials |
Cairo - Cairo is primarily famous for its awe inspiring pyramids but the capital of Egypt is 'mega' in every sense. Even more than its landmarks it is the atmosphere of the city which makes it so attractive. Every moment you spend in Cairo is exhilarating, its bustle surpasses even New York's and there is a constant sense of purpose. Cairo is a must for any traveller, with its amazing sites, culture and religious significance.
Alexandria - Developed by Alexander the Great, this was once one of the world most important and culturally rich cities. Alexandria still has some fascinating attractions, and is a great city to visit. Its highlights are its museums and fabulous ruins.
Port Said - At the northern entrance to the Suez Canal, Port Said is one of the youngest cities in Egypt. Good museums and fantastic weather are the main attractions of the city.
Luxor - One of the most popular destinations in Egypt, Luxor has some magnificent temples, particularly the Luxor Temple and the Temples or Karnak.
Aswan - This southern city is Egypt's gateway to Africa. A busy market city, Aswan boasts some fantastic ruins and beautiful areas especially round the River Nile. |

Egypt Calendar - Pick of the Year's Events |
Abu Simbel Festival (February and October) - Taking place twice every year in Adu Simbel this incredible celebration involves music and a fair. The temple built by Ramses the Second in the town is built to light up at these times of the year.
Aida at El Giza (October) - Verdi's magnificent musical is performed on a grand scale every year during October in front of the Giza Pyramid in Cairo. |
